I am getting more and more frustrated with this.  

I gave it a rest for a few days, and then decided to try to get printer 
sharing to work by setting up the Canon with my iMac.  I left the 
Brother connected, and added the Canon--went through the same 
configuration process as I did with the HL-1440.  Everything seemed to 
go as it should.  I printed a test page from the iMac, and a test page 
from the XP.  Then it all went south.  I couldn't get anything to 
work.  I started getting an "access denied" message when I attempted to 
print from the XP and nada from the iMac.

I think this Canon printer is possessed.
