Gregg,

A lot of what you are saying is totally foreign to me (sorry). I'm
pretty sure my computers do not have fixed IP addresses. How can I
check that? I've gone into the web admin for my Linksys router, but
I'm not sure what I am looking for.

Also, I don't want to lose my internet connection. In the past, when
I've made changes to my settings and can't get back on the internet,
I've had to call Linksys for help. That can be a real pain.

I've had the Brother HL-1440 set up and working just fine for a couple
of weeks, so if the IP address has changed, the XP is still finding it
without any trouble.
