We run Access Accounts software and, occasionally, I need direct help from them. They manipulate my computer, even through the firewall on our Draytek Vigor 2600Plus, much to my amazement, but I'm not tech-savvy.

It shouldn't do. I use a VPN at work to connect to a clients network. This
goes through two firewalls.
