Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions regarding my Dock and Firewire questions. After a restart my dock is now behaving exactly as you said it would, and I discovered that if I connect my external firewire drive AFTER bootup has completed then my 'Tiger' Mac no longer freezes after 2 minutes :-)
Unlike OS9.2.2 I haven't found a need to install any 3rd party stuff to "customize" Tiger - but is there a "must have" that I should try out under Tiger? I'm dipping my toe more and more into the OSX way of life, and I like Safari because it seems a little faster than my OS9.2.2 version of Internet Explorer (5.1.7). Explorer for OSX (v5.2.3) wouldn't let me import it's OS9 favourite bookmarks - weird! But for now I'll still need OS9.2.2 every day because Outlook Express doesn't appear to have an OSX version. One thing - is there a way to get rid of text smoothing in Tiger? I find that all webpages in Safari look blurry on my G3 iMac CRT. I've tried all the font smoothing options in Appearance but I'd still prefer none at all. Thanks!
