Yes, I've just read Paul's explanation of that and am looking forward to MUCH better sound now! I need to eat first, though and may leave it until tomorrow morning, when I'm fresher and can face using brute force on my iMac! :D

Hahaha, thanks, Brian! You could be right about the headphone socket, but it's all there is on the iMac. I remembered that I had an iMic in a drawer somewhere and plugged that in, but it did not make any difference that I could hear. I've plugged my old speakers back in, a tatty Sony SRSA202 Megabass Active Speaker System, with no tone control at all, but volume is the same as the Creatures, at half the level indicated. I can only assume that the iMac is not up to driving the Creatures, which is very disappointing. Unless you know different...

Hopefully not stating the too obvious, but the speakers have their own volume level, is this turned all the way up? The little silver buttons on one of the small speakers control it. I've got these speakers, and they boom out a good volume from everything I've plugged them into - iPods, PCs, iBooks and Mac Minis, all through the headphone socket.

Thinking back, when I first had mine, it took a fair bit of effort to plug the cables in that join all the speakers up. They're square and triangle shaped to help you get the correct left and right settings, but they don't plug together too easily. I thought one of the channels was broken, until I pushed very hard, and then the volume increased massively.
