I remember a guy on last LinuxDay in Wiesbaden who told us that PyUno(?) (a strategic component in OOo) urgently needs a overhaul because it's based on ten years old code and really sowing down the speed of OOo in general. I don't know much about these things but a Python specialist may be a good help on that.
