Dear OOo-Mac community
Shouldn't we complain just a little bit with Apple about the newest
Leopard
update (no.5) that seems to make it impossible to run X11 and OOo?
Hi Guy,
Actually we should complain about the problem with X11 on Leopard
in general. It usually requires installing the XQuartz version of
X11 to get OO.o 2.4 to work – this applies for some other X11
applications as well. When an Leopard update is installed, it
replaces the XQuartz X11 with Apple's X11. The user then has to
reinstall XQuartz X11.
I have just tested OOo 2.4.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.5, without having ever
installed some other X11 software. I also applied my patch at
http://blog.shaunmcdonald.me.uk/2008/03/ooo-possible-fix-for-the-command-timed-out-error-on-leopard/
and have absolutely _no_ problems whatsoever starting OpenOffice.org
X11!
It would appear that it is only those who have installed some other
variant of X11, other than through software update, who are having
problems since the last update.
I just installed OO.o 2.4.2 on my MacBook. I have OS 10.5.5, XQuartz
X11 2.3.1, and I applied Shaun's hack to 'main.scpt'. It installed
and works fine.
Is there really a OOo 2.4.2? According to
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Product_Release there isn't
one planned.
I installed it so I could use it to export test files as PDF's to
see if they caused the same freeze of my system as the one made with
the developer Aqua version of 2.4.
Um, you will need to look at a more specific build or milestone
number. Once you start working with developer builds the main version
number becomes ambiguous. You will need to go to the about dialog, and
look at the mXX number
Note: PDF's made with OO.o 2.4.1 X11 caused no problems.
See above for why!!! There are many builds out there that will seem to
be 2.4.1
