I recently bought off eBay a LaserJet 5 printer that has a JetDirect J2550 network connector in it. I am trying to get it to work on a Mac network, but so far have not had success. I have downloaded and installed drivers from the HP website. In OS 9 the printer does not appear in the Chooser's list of printers when the LaserWriter 8 driver is chosen. In OS X it is not found by the Printer Setup Utility when I try to add a printer.
On the front of the printer it says just "LaserJet 5", so I presume that means it is not the 5M model that was specifically designed to work with Macs. If that is the case would it then absolutely not be usable on a Mac network -- or are there some tricks I need to try to get it to work. I guess I'm hoping that someone out there has a LaserJet 5 working with Macs and can help me configure it. Any suggestions are appreciated.
