This is pretty much the way I feel about Parallels. I use version 2.whatever and now version 3 on a Mac Mini w/ 2GB of RAM. The one slowness it seems to suffer (for me) is that it will often cause a swap file to be written when it first launches, which then slows everything else to a halt. After that, version 3 does a much better job of staying out of the way when not active. I can even make movies of the screen (using SnapzProX) and an audio track without any problems or burps.
