Seems to be working just replacing the files and domains. The hardest part so
far seems to be finding out where everything is located! I agree, a flash
drive or Sandisk is great for the smaller files. But I need the external HD
for the larger ones.

Thanks,
S

Ed and Stuart:

I'm no computer geek, but I still say it is easier to transfer data with my $25
Sandisk I bought from Walmart.

I use it to transfer data from by G5 to my laptop all the time, and it only
takes a minute or two, and I can easily transfer 7.5 GB, and I don't need a
network, or any cables.

So they are not using a wireless network.

You can hook them together and drag and drop the files. If There is no wireless
network in the house.

I don't have the computers networked. More of a moving from old machine to new
one operation. I have the date on a external HD. It is a good amount (about
20,000 photos lots of music/video etc...). Just didn't know if it was as easy
as dragging and dropping the files into the proper location on the new machine.
Seems to make sense... but just didn't want to mess anything up.

If both Mac's are on your network they will show up in the side bar of the
finder.
Click on the one with files you need and if you are the administrator for that
machine you will have to put in your admin name and password then you can copy
file across your network to the mac that needs the files.

If Mac is not on network but in another location
You can use Dropbox to move files back and forth between Mac's

Subject: [MacGroup] moving between macs

Hi all,

So, I need to move some stuff between my macs. Most importantly, my iTunes
library, iPhoto library, iWeb and Garageband files. I know there is the
"migration" function, but I am wondering if there is an easier way. I have all
of the above backed up onto an external HD (USB not Firewire). Can I just
swap the files in the locations where they should be (once I figure that out)
and the programs will work as designed? Or is there more to it than that?

Thanks for thoughts/help!

Stuart
