Actually, it doesn't validate as HTML 4.01 Transitional.
What did you use to validate it?

You will notice excessive blank space on the right of the sidebars on

4.01 just fine, and looks okay (smaller sidebars on either side) on
almost
all other browsers.
a) what is the HTML compatibility of IE 5.0?
b) what workaround could be applied to fix these fat sidebars?
c) is this list still alive?
