I had a similar problem with my Zip drive after I got it new...look on the
back...there are 2 switches that you can flip...The SCSI id # setting and
the Termination on/off setting.
Suggestion #1..Make sure that the SCSI # set on the Zip is NOT the same as
anything else that you have hooked up..burner, scanner, etc....If you go
into the System Profiler and check Devices and Volumes it will show you the
ID# of anything SCSI that it detects. I have mine set to id 6.
Suggestion #2... Play with the Term Power on/off switch.. try it with the
setting On and then with it off and see what happens....I have mine set to
Off, but I have a Belkin SCSI/USB converter that has a seperate Terminator
power adapter included.
I would unhook anything connected to the computer and just try to get the
drive to run by itself....It took me a few tries to get it set properly
when I first hooked mine up....The fun and games began when I added a SCSI
scanner and burner and had to rework it again...I did get it to work
finally though.
An additional note....Make sure that the Zip is at the END of the chain if
there is nothing that provides it's own termination .
My set up is...SCSI burner to Zip to SCSC/USB Adapter to iMac SE
400...Again, make sure of he settings on the ZIip and whether anything else
is providing Termination Power..
Hope this helps...

Mike Kochkodin
