I've had duplicates on external drives and it would run off the external drive doing the same thing. I *think* it can be fixed my using file extentions. You essentially force this file format to use this program here. Since presumeably none is selected, it simply picks the first one it comes to. Thats why sometimes when you double click on something, you get that list of programs to use. It can't guess which one is the correct one (duplicate entries or none with several saying its "mine").
