Thanks to all who gave input. I picked up a 12 VAC wall wart and now the unit
is working fine.

Doh! The DC wall wart that came with was 500 mA so I grabbed an 850 from the
store. Looks like I better go and get a bigger one (the xfrmr is running warm).

I'm able to move files across the Asanteprint from an appletalk networked
powerbook 520c to a PPC 8500 on the ethernet side. The docs (58 pdf pages when
10 would do) say that you can access up to eight appletalk devices, printers
and/or computers, on the micro asanteprint.
