I am new to OS X, do I have to have a hub or can I just use my crossover cable for two system X's to talk?

Last question.
in System Preferences -> Sharing ->
I don't see...> Internet, share the modem to other computers using built-in ethernet.
I do see turn on Internet Sharing.
