Has anyone heard of this wireless system? A local ISP, North Valley
> Wireless ( http://www.northvalleywireless.com ), is using this
system for high speed internet

HOOYAAA! An ISP that has actually fielded WiMAX!

WiMAX is the marketing name for 802.16a, which is (+/- implementation and standards squabbling) a wireless system that does 70 Mbps over a 31 mile range!

It's a fat pipe technology to your home (or group of homes), to replace that last-mile POTS, xDSL, or coax drop. The WiMAX WAPs output ethernet or they bridge to 802.11a/b/g.

This is one of the technologies being developed as a direct reaction to the Bells and Cables trying to lock out / crush the local ISPs.

> Does anyone use a non-satellite, (non-cable, non-dsl, etc) wireless
internet system similar to this?

Would if I could. Our local ISP is currently trying to put up a tower to broadcast WiMAX, but is being hammered by Verizon and Comcast.

The future is coming...

- Dan.
