Free Dot Mac Not Quite RIP Yet

Sign on the dotted Mac line extended to October 14.
Apple has extended the deadline for current subscribers to October 14 for trial .Mac
accounts, according to a story at
c|net news.
The original deadline was set for this Monday, but Apple, according to the story, is
giving existing users some more thinking time. Current trial users can still subscribe
for the $49.95 discount offer for the first year until October 14. Thereafter, all
users will pay $99.95 per annum.
Around 5% of the original 2.4 million iTools users have signed up for .Mac, Apple
revealed recently.
Analysis: This was a scarcely surprising deadline extension, given that many dot Mac
users may choose to jump at the last minute - and better 50 bucks than 100 bucks. But
if the rumored SMS for .Mac becomes reality, then a lot of people might give .Mac a
second look.
