Direct Connect for X arrives
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
February 2nd 2003
Peer-to-peer file sharing on the Mac just got a great big boost
Neo-Modus has announced the immediate availability of Direct Connect for OS X ? a
client that allows Mac users to take part in a peer-to-peer network that's home to
over a PetaByte of data.
In addition to X compatibility, the latest version of Direct Connect, v1.1.0, also
features: the ability to transfer completed transfers to a user specifiable folder; a
host of speed optimizations; and operator functions are supported (ctrl-click).
This application requires just 1.8MB of HDD space, runs under any version of X and is
indeed fast (ie compared to LimeWire). Although not as user-friendly as some
peer-to-peer clients, opening the app immediately launches a simple step-by-step "how
to" that'll get you going.
>From downloading the app to finding an open "hub" (a group of like-minded Direct
>Connect users) and locating a file of interest, took all of 10 minutes.
Direct Connect for X allows the user to bookmark favorite hubs and users for fast
reconnection later. Best of all, this client for the world's hottest file-sharing
network is absolutely free.
