Need power? Rent a G4 cluster
By ron carlson, Insanely Great Mac
February 4th 2003
A Belgian company is renting out a 64-node Mac cluster
Hemeris Computing has announced it is renting out time on a high-performance cluster
of 64 G4 computers for $1 per processor hour, which in plain English I think means you
can crunch "at the speed of light" for $64 an hour.
Customers can reduce mountains of data in seconds, minutes and hours with the
company's highly-scalable cluster, which it intends to extend to 1,250 dual-G4 nodes
over the coming months.
Hemeris states that when complete their 2,500-processor "supercomputer" will be one of
the 20 most-powerful computers in the world.
Editor's note: So how fast will that compress a one-hour VCD of my kids? Realtime?
