Apple Wins Award for Bringing Wi-Fi to 'the Rest of Us'

Cupertino wins - again - on innovation and risk-taking.
Apple has been awarded the Outlook 4Mobility 2003 Innovation awards, the 13th occasion
the presentation has been made, reports MacWorld UK.
According to the story, Apple got the wireless Oscar for "showing the industry that
Wi-Fi is cost-effective for mass adoption and for leading 802.11g implementation".
Apple introduced 802.11g (Airport Extreme) first on its PowerBooks at MacWorld San
Francisco in January this year. Currently, Apple's professional line of PowerBooks and
Power Macs are equipped with Airport Extreme support. While the 802.11g standard was
not finalized at the time of the January announcement, it was officially sanctioned
shortly afterwards.
Apple was first to market in 1999 when it introduced the Airport-based (802.11b)
original iBooks. Airport support was quickly made standard across Apple's desktop and
portable lines, while many PC manufacturers took 12 months or more to support wireless
solutions.
