Apple recognized for wireless leadership

The mothership has been presented with an Outlook 4Mobility 2003 Innovation award
Apple has been honored with an Outlook 4Mobility 2003 Innovation award at the 13th
Annual Wireless Dinner. The awards program and dinner were held in conjunction with
CTIA's Wireless Conference which runs through today in New Orleans.
Apple garnered this innovation award "for showing the industry that Wi-Fi is
cost-effective for mass adoption and for leading 802.11g implementation," according to
an Outlook 4Mobility press release.
In addition to the mothership, four other technology firms were honored with Outlook
4Mobility 2003 Innovation awards: Digital Orchid, Monet Mobile, Nextel and Research in
Motion.
The Outlook 4Mobility CTIA Wireless Dinner is an invitation-only event that is
sponsored by wireless industry entities, which in turn are entitled to extend the
invitations.
Editor's note: It's been a good two years since Apple's Airport technology arrived on
the scene. At this point, after the fact, it seems a tad obvious and frankly overdue
for the company to be awarded this 'honor' after the entire industry has in hindsight
pilled on. It's also more than a bit self-congratulatory. But, that's what awards are
usually about.
