Microsoft 'honored' for botched 'switch ad'

An article highlights Redmond for 'swiping [Apple's] idea and completely screwing it
up'
Business 2.0 has posted an interesting and entertaining article entitle The 101
dumbest moments in business, a compendium of corporate bloopers and blunders. Redmond
earned the No. 11 spot of this list for this particular faux pas. Here's a quote:
"In an attempt to blunt Apple's 'Switch' campaign, Microsoft posts a page on its
website, titled 'Confessions of a Mac to PC Convert,' featuring a woman touting the
Windows XP operating system. It's soon revealed, however, that the woman pictured is a
model and the touting comes from a freelance writer paid by Gates & Co."
In fact, Redmond earned two spots in the top 20. Business 2.0 also cited a Microsoft
executive's comments at a developers conference. The No. 5 listing states:
"At a developers conference in September, Microsoft senior vice president Brian
Valentine describes the state of the art in OS security: 'Every operating system out
there is about equal.... We all suck.'"
