One thing I like about Brother is that they have a very clear website where you 
can compare their models by price and feature, so if an ethernet jack is 
important to you, you can see which models come with them and make your 
decisions that way.

Yeah, the rodent in the woodpile here is not that the cartridges are 
aftermarket, but the integrity of the aftermarket manufacturer. I'm sure there 
are aftermarket cartridges of high quality, as well those aftermarket 
cartridges that have random pumice and rat turds mixed in. I've just been 
unable to find a way to reliably tell the difference at purchase time.  :-(
