Apple Engineer Explains Case in/sensitivity Reasoning, etc.

Fred is a member of the core operating system group and senior engineer at Apple.  
This is his story about integrating UNIX and Mac OS, the trade-offs and the reasoning. 
 

I found the explanation of his solution for the ":" vs "/" in filenames particularly 
interesting:

It's also interesting to note that they (Apple) considered the case sensitivity issue 
a trivial matter that did not warrant a fix.
