CPAN Failure after install of 5.8.0

After doing a fresh install of Perl 5.8.0 following the directions on developer.apple.com ( <http://developer.apple.com/internet/macosx/perl.html>) I ran into the following at the end of the CPAN config. I'm using Jaguar 10.2.3 Server on an Xserve.

khsmith% sudo perl -MCPAN -eshell
dyld: perl Undefined symbols:
_Perl_sv_2pv
_perl_get_sv
Trace/BPT trap

.. and CPAN dies. I need to install support for MySQL.

Things went fine installing using the same procedure on my TiBook (Jaguar 10.2.3).....

Please advise!
