William stated that, to have *any* chance *at all* of making it work, you *must* install Fink. That's total nonsense. Fink is nice if you're looking for a simple solution - but it's hardly a must. Building it by hand is tedious and time-consuming, but it's hardly rocket surgery.
You're quite right, of course. I only meant that having tried several approaches and failed at most, the only way to be 'sure of success' is to use fink. The variably reliable experiences of others seem to bear that out, and I would hate someone to think that all modules were as hard to install as Perlmagick.
Perhaps I put it too strongly: we can put that down to scars that still ache when it rains :)

ps. incidentally I am currently going through a similarly back and forth process trying to make Apache::Scoreboard build on os x with the stock apache. Anyone like to point me towards the easy way?
