Hi guys I was going to ask about this for a blind friend of mine who is not on this list. I had something like this happen on my iPhone 4 s before I got my 5 s and gave my husband my old one. Here's what happened to him.
He got this brand new iPod 5. He is totally blind, so uses VoiceOver full time. Ee let his sighted 9-year-old daughter turn off VoiceOver and run a game on his new iPod. Unfortunately, when he turned VoiceOver back on, the sound was dead and gone. I discovered accidentally a trick to turn VoiceOver back on when this happens because it happened to me before with my 4 s. I had him tell Siri to turn on VoiceOver, even though I was fairly sure that VoiceOver was already running. As I hoped, she comflained, but it also restored speech, I have not a clue why.
