Yes, this is happening on my iPhone 5 as well. However, if you swipe
left beyond the "swipe down with 3 fingers to reveal the notification
center ..." the phone says (in my case), "3 of 5 bars signal strength"
but doesn't give the name of my phone carrier.

Mine does not. Visually, my phone is still showing the name of my network. But VoiceOver
says, "Swipe down with 3 fingers to reveal the Notification Center. Swipe up with 3
fingers to reveal the Control Center. Double tap to scroll to top".
So far, I've been able to verify this rather interesting behavior with 3 iPhone
6's. I'm going to try it on a 6 Plus shortly.
I'd like to know if anyone else is haring VoiceOver saying the same thing to
them.
Might be another call to Apple Accessibility.
