David, this sounds totally unreasonable to me. First, if just losing an 1/8th inch jack upsets you that much you’ll hate android. I use both and the user experience on Android is much more clumsy and half baked.
Secondly, that’s just nutty about the adapters. It’s no different than carrying a quarter to 8th inch adapter. Most times you can just stuff it on the end of the plug and forget about it, it’s not like you have to snap it off every time you want to use it. If you want to plug your cans in to something else it may also already have the new flavor port or if not for $7 get two pair, it’s good to have a spare anyway or at least that’s how I approach it. To each their own of course and I don’t know your use case for headphones other than what you’ve detailed but to me you sound like a lot of complaints and stress for no reason. Especially with out seeing what actually turns out being presented. Of all the faults apple has and I’d be happy to list a few, this just isn’t one of them. You’d think people were being asked to carry round a toaster sized balancing transformer to plug in one type of connector to another. This stuff will be so small and integrated right in to a piece that will probably fit right on the end of your headphones and that’s the last time you’ll have to think about it. I’m with you that I would not want to be forced to use the apple buds only but I’m sure that’s not going to be the case. You can already get lightning enabled headsets. Anyway do as you see fit but I think this is all making a mountain out of a mole hill.
