david and Arnold it seems Arnold was correct. Since nothing else was working, I decided that desperate times call for desperate measures, so I deleted all settings. I am now writing in BSI, which is back to working again, as is M-Braille. And, for some unknown reason, Voiceover came back on all on its own.
