For now at least, removing Soundflower seems to have done it. Apps are still 
slow to open but not as bad as before, and emails rarely delay when I open them 
now. I have also noticed only one instance of Voiceover stuttering, and that 
was right after booting up. Hopefully this fix will make a clean install 
unnecessary.
