Command-f5 will turn Voiceover on and off, and once it is on it will remain on 
until you turn it off, even after a restart. On a standard Apple keyboard, the 
command key is immediately to the left or right of the spacebar. You may need 
to press function with that keystroke, which is the bottom left key.

If you are interested in programming, Macs come with Python pre-installed, so 
you can use that language, or you can look into using Xcode to write 
Objective-c or C++ applications. The mv...@googlegroups.com email list is a 
good place to ask Xcode questions.

Keystrokes are all over the internet, but Apple has a couple lists on their 
website, as does www.applevis.com. The latter site also has many tutorials and 
pocasts for those new to the Mac you may find useful.
