would winning one have changed your opinion on the "no future" idea?

Seeing Maemo as an opportunity to have a full, Linux experience to take
with me on the go was exciting. Several years of active community
members and developers gave proof that that excitement was real.
Unfortunately all of that excitement had been extinguished once the
hardware hit a brick wall. This e-mail seems like a belated good-bye
seeing that no real activity in Maemo has happened in over a year. I
refer Maemo as both 5 and 6(MeeGo).

The last great stand, a.k.a. "Community Awards", was nothing more
    than a
front to give away hardware mostly to friends. This embodies the Maemo
community (perhaps Debian from where it was derived) as I saw it as a
self-centered, self-righteous body. The proof lies in the empty mailing
lists (which only became active when a free prize was dangled from a
stick), the lack of members running for council, the absence of news on
Linux/mobile sites, and the absence of change to the software
    ecosphere.
I do not discount the work done with the CSSU or kernel, but this work
can only go so far with the hardware they run on and with the limited
resources (2-3 people?) at hand. The purpose of this email is to not,
hypocritically, belittle others, but to wish them well on finding new
projects with a larger chance of success.

It is time for me to move on and wrap up this rant that will disappear
into the Internet Ocean of bits forever. I had fun while it lasted. I
engaged with new people and expanded my horizons a bit (never used dpkg
until Maemo). I hope another company considers a Linux phone in the
future, but I might have better luck wishing to see the tooth fairy.

    Sincerely,
    Michael
