AFAIK the only working version of qemu is in 0.9.8.5. The situation is
somewhat unclear because maintenance version of old stable branch has been
released later than the new stable branch ;) Of course this doesn't mean
that it can run all applications that are out there.

IMHO best option is to use the 770 as a CPU-transparency device thus using
the actual device for doing the arm stuff. Then one could use for example
gdb server/strace for debugging on real device to find out what is
happening. All graphics could be pointed to devices screen instead of
xnest/xephyr/xvnc so even the UI can be debugged better. If the device is
not available one must stick to qemu/other arm box for CPU-transparency
which is not as good as described above.
