Somehow, I have fixed all problems of cropped letters in the preferences and in buttons. The other day, I decided that since Mandrake Installer had loaded a lot of crap I do not use, I would put my system on a diet. I deleted all of Gnome's window manager and all the utilities that come with it and a bunch of other stuff I have not used. About 150MB of stuff :-) Almost immediately when I started up M after all this, it looked different and it wasn't till today that I noticed the buttons were different. They are now a rectangle with a rh/bottom drop shadow. I also reduced the number of external graphics libraries so wxWindows now uses it's internal routines.
