Ok, so your real dilemma is price point? Well, here's a possible solution:
There is an entry level version of the Motif IF called the MOXF. This
keyboard has all of the Motif IF sounds at half the price and half the
weight, so it would be a better option for you if you wanted to gig with it.
I'm looking at this one myself for several reasons, A because it's a huge
upgrade from my Casio, B because it has all of the sounds of the Motif IF at
half the price and weight and I love the Motif sounds, and C because it can
do audio and midi through a single USB port. In order to do audio to your
computer on the Motif IF, you need a firewire interface, and that's just one
more expense you probably won't want to deal with.
There's a video on youtube that will give you more information about this
MOXF.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8tQJDCYjlo
This guy uses both the Motif XF and the MOXF, so he's very knowledgeable on
how they both work. He compares the two, and gives you information about
benefits on both keyboards. It's a long video, because he talks a lot, but
it definitely helped me decide which keyboard I wanted. Note, however, that
the sounds he's playing are his own custom sounds that he loaded onto the
flash board. None of them are the actual sounds that come with the
keyboard. If you want a sound demonstration, check out this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCa283ZsJUk
You'll get a chance to hear some of the sounds, as well as find out about
some free sound libraries that are on the Yamaha website. However, in order
to load in the sound libraries, you'll definitely need a flash board, which
runs about 300 dollars for the 1 gigabyte, and I'd highly recommend the
flash board..
But in short, the MOXF8 is about half the price of the Motif XF. Motif XF
is 3600, while the MOXF is 1700.
I'm sure that either of these would work fine with QWS, seeing as they both
have midi capabilities. You'll also need the QWS Motif XF instrument list
for more convenient access to the MOXF or Motif XF sounds from QWS. That
can be found on the QWS website under the downloads section.
I hope these videos help you decide which keyboard to get. Honestly, I
think you should purchase one of these instead of Contact. You'll get
access to superb sounds, even when you aren't using QWS!
God bless,
Seth

Woops. Guess sharing on dropbox on the iphone didn't work. Laptop time.

Anyways, If I could be absolutely sure it worked with qws and that I
wouldn't run into so many stumbling blocks I couldn't even ask them all on
here, I'd get the kontakt thing. I'll have to save up for months and months
to get the moteef, but I'm practically living in guitar center. There must
be some kind of rule against the way I've been. I've been going there, just
to see the moteef and renew my determination to get it. I want to download
the plugin for it, so I can go in and see how well it works with QWS. The
funny thing is, the pro audio guys at guitar center seemed surprised that I
plug in a keyboard and it uses its own sounds, only triggered by MIDI. Thus,
I couldn't get a straight answer from them on how well it would work. I keep
having second thoughts.

what file are we speaking of? I didn't see a link . but there are good
kontakt libs for the motif, however, I have not the slightest clue on how
you would get it to work with qws. but if the real instrument is 3600 and
you're willing to pay that amount, I'm sure if you have to rig up something
to run kontakt, pay for kontakt and pay for the sound pack (kontakt lib) it
would be still ways cheaper than buying the motif. Keep in mind, what works
for you works for you, and if you really like qws as I do, its worth buying
the motif, and the actual instrument is a beast, I'm just suggesting an
alternative because you asked. hope I've helped in some way.

H hi all,
I have my sights set on a Yamaha motif. It will cost $3600.
The question I wanted to ask is, before I pay that $3600, is there any kind
of on computer sound pack, that has as realistic patches as the motif, that
I can use with my midi controller. It can cost, I can save up and pay for
something, but I want to know that it's accessible, and works with QWS.
That's why asked on this list and not Mini mag in general. I wanted to make
sure it will work with UWS because that is all I use at the moment. This
file is what my patches sound like now. I want to get something better that
I can play both jazz, and electronic pop. Thanks, blake. To unsubscribe or
