I recently had a similar problem with 5.5. In which I had a clip
region and 3000 point objects. The map took so long to draw that I
finally gave up. I was told by tech support that a change in the way
objects are handled result in a significant slowing of the program and
that MapInfo does not do speed benchmarks. Way back when I adopted
MapInfo for Dos, one of its greatest pluses was speed. 5.5 is an
unfortunate retrogression.

Dear MapInfo and List,
I thought upgrades meant that products improve?!!
I've recently upgraded from 5.0 to 5.5 and need to clip a map that
contains
some vector street data and a thematic grid. It must now take
approx. 10
times longer (and before it wasn't that quick) for the map window to
redraw.
Is there anyway that this can be speeded up?
Can I modify something to quicken this process?
Have MapInfo corrected this problem already and if not why not and
when are
they going to speed things up?
Regards in annoyance!,
