Obviously all the revision numbers will need changing away from svn revision ids, but I would suggest in future they should only refer to revision ids until they are released, and at that point the revision id is converted to a release number. It might also be worth, for non-released versions, giving the revision number as a git-describe rather than just a plain commit id.
