Maptitude - http://research.umbc.edu/~roswell/maptitude.html

Hi all!

Margie, your wishes are very good indeed! As you have suggested I will use the
magic word in the Subject, when adding mine:

1) I wish the possibility of editing simultaneously many things dialog boxes
(more important are layers, selections and modify structure, in that order). I
mean more options, for example to change the autoescale parameters for 367
TIFF images I had to expend a long time because Mapt did not aloud to do that,
even though I wanted to use the same scale for all of them. I do not remember
other examples now for selections or modify structure, but certainly are.

2) I wish to change the word Kilometers or whatever is written in English in
the Legend scale to other language (Portuguese and Spanish are good to start
with). [That is old too]

3) I wish to hide a subtitle name without hide the contents of the class in
the Legend (other lines under the subtitle) keeping the possibility of hiding
the whole set as well, as it is now. That is I wish both things.

4) I wish to have the possibility of importing coded field names, as we can
now display coded fields contents, or at least an easy way to change several
fields names that are pretty similar, other than typing each of them.

5) I wish a button on the dialog boxes that aloud me to send a line to the top
or to the bottom, not just one step up or down. (we usually work with many
fields or layers).

6) I wish a way of editing line symbols, as we can do with point symbols
(using a True Type Font Editor).

7) I wish to have back (we had it in GIS+ and TransCAD for DOS) the
possibility of creating a line theme splitting the links with different widths
using two different fields from the dataview, i.e. number of passengers moving
Downtown - Outskirts and Outskirts - Downtown direction.

8) I wish to have a merge databases command.

9) I wish to have a Overlay command for Polygons/Points, Polygons/Lines and
Lines/Points.

10) I wish to have a way to calculate slope and aspect from contour lines.

11) I wish to calculate a TIN from contour lines, or at least a way to create
height points from contour lines. (pretty much the same). I also wish to be
able to type in other units names, like $ or Dollars, or Population or
whatever. TIN is not exclusive for heights, you can use it for time
(isocrones), mortality or birth rates, diseases, land value or anything that
have a numeric value, a continuous behavior and you would like to interpolate.

12) I wish to be able to drop a selection set that is situated exactly the
first one under the main Layer in the Selection dialog box. When you have
several sets and Selection is not in the above mentioned position, the set
situated there is "glued", you can not move it or drop it even renaming it.
The only way to do that is executing the selection with the very same name,
but giving a non existing selection possibility, like ID<0.

Finally, the last two, a special class of Not wishes, I do not know if they
are bugs or what...

13) I do Not wish to have the Portuguese accents and special characters (like
etc. I can provide a list if you wish) to be corrupted whenever I
export to or import from Dbase in Mapt. It happens even if the characters are
OK inside the DBF when we opened it with Mapt. (PLEASE, this is a very
important wish, that is, a VIW)

14) I do Not wish to have an error message when using a Fill and Tag in a
dataview if the first layer in our Map is a TIFF image even if it is not the
current or if it is hidden. It is not a serious error (the system does not
hangs) but in versions previous to 4.1 it was not possible to execute the
command unless you drop the unwanted raster. Actually (we are using version
4.2) it gives the error message with the unpleasant BANG, but carries on with
the command after that.

I am pretty sure that I have more wishes, but I remember them when I am
working, and later on I forget. This list really have the more important ones,
some of them I have for years (since Mapt was released in 1994), so really
appreciate a response from Caliper.

Thanks all for your attention. I will like to hear comments as well. Best
regards,

Reinaldo
