In my work I don't reverse the color schemes according to whether
a group is white or non-white.  If I am mapping African-American
population, a smaller percentage is lighter than a greater 
percentage.  I do white in the same fashion.  Less white is a lighter 
shade, more white is a darker shade.  See:
