If the phrase "common location" means the same address (e.g., a particular
street address shared by several residents) and you wish to display the
number of such residents, you could use scaled symbols (with the symbol size
variable depending on the number of records at the common location);
color-themed symbols (with symbols being displayed in various colors or
gradations of color depending on number of records); etc. You'd need to
insure that the common addresses are entered exactly alike, as even minor
differences ("Ave" vs. "Av", or differing apartment numbers) will cause
Maptitude to treat them as individual locations rather than common
locations. You could do a workaround for even that situation if you created
a calculated identifier field based on concatenating latitude and longitude
fields for each location and using some simple method of counting the number
occurrences of records sharing that location identifier.

I have a file that involves multiple observations (records) at common
locations. Is there a technique in Maptitude for displaying each unique
location and the number of records which share that common location?
As an example, suppose a file of residential addresses included multiple
residents from many different apt. bldgs. as well as lots of records for
single-family homes. The desired map would be the point locations of all
the unique addresses and either:

   * a label representing the number of records for each unique location
     or
   * a thematic symbol at each location representing a range in the
     number of records (e.g. 1, 2-5, 6-10, etc.)

I'd appreciate any ideas anyone might have on how to approach this
problem.

Thanks
