Comrade Eli, While I oppose imperialist intervention in Syria, that some
mistaken leftists are giving support to and I agreemore with the recent ISO
position stated on their Socialist Worker site, in recognizing imperialism as a
danger, I just received more PSL statements that clearly gives back handed if
not frontal support to Bashar al-Assadstaying in power - and not giving any
support to any Syrians opposing Bashar al-Assad. So your statement below could
be confusing - since Marxists certainly do care about the local situation of
repressionand it is not clear when you state the current Syrian government has
aided resistance movements. I have found noevidence that the Bashar al-Assad
government aided the rebel uprising in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Yemen
orto efforts in even Malaysia with thatr local rebel upsurge as part of the
Arab Awakening? Perhaps you were referring to SOME past events in Lebanon, but
certainly not the current situation there with themain Hezbollah formations
distancing themselves from Bashar al-Assad as well? Do you welcome the removal
of Bashar al-Assad from power and a workers government being established?Do you
support those Syrians trying to do just that? Or - do you really give
uncritical support to Bashar al-Assad and his cronies - because the United
States government wants him also replacedand you actually favor doing nothing
against the current government attacks on free speech and organizing - and just
let the current situtationcontinue for years - until Bashar al-Assad's child
can then be the new supreme ruler -and the U. S. government then officially
supports that newdictator? > Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2012 13:16:00 -0700
