Goodman's role as a trailblazer in integrating music ,in the era of Jim Crow 
,cannot be under rated, his tour of the Soviet Union, in the early 60s is to be 
applauded, but I was always disappointed by his post war recorded output. 
Goodman never explored the potential of the many post bop directions jazz was 
taking in the late 40s to early 70s, the way people like Woody Herman ,Stan 
Kenton, Gil Evans ,and others did. Duke Ellington collaborated with John 
Coltrane, Stan Kenton and Gil Evans believed that the jazz orchestra could be 
used much the same way as a symphony orchestra could, in embracing modern ,and 
post-modern classical compositions, Woody Herman collaborated with everyone 
from Igor Stravinsky, to Chick Corea, and in the 70s ,incoporated what was 
happening in the arena jazz-rock fusion into his repitoire.With all that was 
happening in music after WWII, Goodman seemed stuck in 1935, and became a sort 
of nostalgia act to the baby boomers parents,
