I expect others are also tiring of this exchange about whether the decline began in the 70's rather than the 80's, and can look at the data to draw their own conclusions. I don't attach the same importance to it as Charlie. Whether it began four decades ago or five, as Charlie mistakenly purports to show, it's been a very long decline.
