Thanks Steve:
I was going to ask something, which is very similar to the lines of Esteban as
well.
I have been for some time, been dealing with the Asian Mode of Production in
relation to particular states.
I have been very struck by this remark from Marx:

"“In all forms of society there is one specific kind of production which
predominates over the rest, whose relations thus assign rank and influence to
the others. It is a general illumination which bathes all the other colours and
modifies their particularity. It is a particular ether which determines the
specific gravity of every being which has materialized within it.”
Karl Marx, "The Grundrisse"; Introduction; 1857; in "(3) The Method Of
Political Economy”; London 1994 Tr M.Nicolaus; p.107 at:
https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1857/grundrisse/ch01.htm (
https://www.marxists.org/archive/marx/works/1857/grundrisse/ch01.htm )

Marx's comment also thus relates to the whole debate that has repeatedly noted
that Marx noted that elements of mercantile capitalism arose even in early days
of commodity circulation, and within the shell of other modes of production for
eg slavery.

So in this background, is there a  "one specific kind of production which
predominates over the rest" - in relation to China - or as your note seems to
imply, *any* society?
