A weakened US, will still be a country with nuclear arms and considerable 
strength in terms of traditional arms. At least in the short run, a weakened 
US, much like a wounded bear, may and probably will become more dangerous. I 
think that will be the case, whether not the people at the top are competent 
and incompetent. Keep in mind, that during the cold war, when the "best and the 
brightest" were in charge of things, we had a number of close calls, from the 
Cuban missile crisis, down to almost the very end.
