It’s quite *possible* that the tensions between China and the US could lead to a world-ending nuclear exchange, most likely through escalation and miscalculation, but what you are picking up from me is a wariness of.projecting *inevitable* historical outcomes.. In my experience, posing the issue in this way to most people - Socialist Revolution or Nuclear or Environmental Annihilation! - breeds fatalism and passivity rather than serving as a call to action. I’ve found it more effective to mobilize people around the need for a reduction of tensions between the major powers to avoid nuclear war rather than to benignly observe or even support a sharpening of these tensions on the assumption this will “inevitably” lead people to the recognition that socialist revolution is the only means by which nuclear Aramgeddon can be avoided. Does that make me a pacifist? No. But it does call for an alliance with pacifists and others who want to see a reduction in internatiional tensions and are prepared to act on that possibility rather than resigning themselves to nuclear extinction short of the overthrow of capitalism.
