As usual, Gandall argues against his straw man, nothing more. The point is not that the CPUSA was centrally involved in the fight against racial discrimination. The points are that communists were major activists within the King-led movement, that King was not in the least anti-communist, and that Blanc instead tried to portray King as almost solely involved to his left with "socialists."
