China trades wherever it can, including Israel. Its exports have grown in most of the world's countries in the last few years. China's annual export of capital fell by half when COVID hit and has grown only about 25% from the low point. ( www.aei.org/research-products/report/steady-not-soaring-chinese-investment-in-2025/ ) What is this about China's "increased human development standards for its citizens"? Unemployment among recent college graduates has grown to serious levels, hardly a sign of same. Hundreds of millions of people take whatever work they can get, left on their own to sell their labor power, take care of their parents in retirement, and save for their own retirement. Maybe U.S. officials think stationing troops around the Gulf will counter China's main global economic involvement: trade anywhere, and securing raw materials where they may be found, especially Congo and other African spots. But whatever the officials think, it doesn't look like a workable strategy. (If the U.S. tries to choke off Gulf oil to China, that is an obvious step to war bigtime, not merely disruption of BRI.) Mark adds, "the attacks have broken up the China-Iran-Saudi alliance. Haven't they?" China never did much for Iran, except buy some sanctioned oil at bargain prices. China has become steadily more aggressive in the East and South China Seas, against Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Japan.
