I find it hard to believe that you are using PPP to communicate over a
cable modem, because PPP is a *serial* protocol designed to work over
RS-232 equipment, not ethernet.
You could run pppd over a TCP/IP connection, but if you can already use
TCP/IP, you don't need PPP unless you are doing some type of
tunnelling... ??
